I had dinner this evening in the brasserie here at my apartment. Having had a very enjoyable lunch at The People’s Palace with B earlier today I was in the mood for something light. As I was consulting the menu I was reminded of something that had puzzled me earlier in the week, shortly after I had arrived in Manila. The menu offered the prospect of ordering BLAT with salad and fries. At that time I had been inclined to experiment, and so ordered it, saying “I’ll have the BLAT please” and paying next to no attention to the rather puzzled look that the waiter (Romeo: how tempted was I to call out, from time to time, Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo, although I did not) gave me. All became clear when (a) the food arrived and (b) I paid more attention to the menu to discover that I had ordered the Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado and Tomato sandwich. I can be remarkably dim at times.
FWIW (F: your education continues) this evening I had a very good sandwich based on local, very thin and delicious spears of asparagus and grilled cheese. Not a BLAT in sight.
