…was with B at The People’s Palace here in Makati. Inevitably we had Son In Law Eggs1, Som Tam2, and Pomelo and Prawn Salad to begin with, then a Green Chicken Curry and some Spring Rolls. Our conversation, as it always does, ranged far and wide, and it was around 3.30p before we finally brought the meal to an end. Although it was a wet day in Manila we sat outside: seats inside were reserved for a private party, but eating outside in January is always a treat for me so I was more than happy to do that despite the rain. I have always had great food at this restaurant, and today was no exception.
1. Apparently the story behind these is that a mother-in-law will cook them for her son-in-law if she thinks he is being unkind to her daughter. It will remind him that his family jewels could well end up fried on a plate if he doesn’t clean up his act.↩
