Tomorrow is F’s birthday, and we’re spending it in London. The centrepiece of the occasion will undoubtedly be dinner at The White Onion in Wimbledon, now firmly entrenched as one of our favourite restaurants. We had also hoped to take in the Hokusai exhibition at the British Museum: following a very interesting piece on him recently on the excellent In Our Time radio programme on Radio 4 I bought a book about his work and so was delighted to see this event come up. However that’s to be a pleasure for another time: the exhibition starts on the day that we return to Edinburgh.
I’m writing this on the Virgin train service to London King’s Cross. We time the departure to take advantage of the very good breakfast that is offered on this service. It didn’t disappoint, and once again we were later offered the option to have the lunch service too. We declined, although others didn’t.
