This I Know I Think
Life on the verge of understanding

I was fortunate enough to go to a school where there was an annual reading list in the English class. We were required to read everything on list A, as much as we could on list B, and as much as we liked to read on list C. I can still remember reading at one sitting this, admittedly quite short, novel, perfectly entranced by the way that Hemingway could make such a story out of what seemed like so little material and characters.

He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish.
