Many years ago I dreamt that I won €156M on the lottery. Apart from the statistical improbability of that event occurring, the fact that I didn’t buy lottery tickets as a matter of routine meant that it was likely to remain forever a dream.
A few days ago I happened to notice that the EuroMillions jackpot for the draw to be made on the following Friday, 20 November, was some £114M. A quick check with exchange rates showed that was around €154M. On the basis that this was as likely as I was ever going to get to my highly unlikely dream, I bought seven tickets, thereby investing £14 with the prospect of a very large payout.
Yesterday I opened my mail application to check mail, and noticed a message from National Lottery, inviting me to log in to my account because they had a message for me. I have to admit to a quickening of the pulse rate and a feeling of excitement as I logged in and discovered that I had won…
…£14.90! Ah well, if it was easy, anyone could do it.
